Kindred Spirits

The April 15 meeting of the Kindred Spirits quilt club went very well, lots of good show and tell, and a challenging project (with options!) was presented.

Chera wins the prize for the most creative adaption to our monthly pattern (below).

This original project is called the "Pink and Brown Nine Patch" and it's from Kathleen Tracy's book "Small and Scrappy."

We had some other great show and tell as well.

Darlene wowed us with the lamb she made. She has a little dress made of French linen, and of course her coat is wool. The 2 little white buttons actually look like sheep. Great job, Darlene! Ewe get the most fun project award for this month!

Some wonderful churn dashes, and some blocks from a block of the month club. Below is Carol's January and her February projects. She didn't join us until March but was able to get caught up with the group.

Our project for the month of April, due May 13, is a bit of a challenge. It is a 9-patch strippy quilt, with 9-patches that finish at 1.5" square. I get them 2 other options to consider, by upsizing that little 9-patch to one that finishes at 3" square. Stay tuned to find out what the group did!

Sewing for Fall/Halloween

I'm so ready for fall weather to be here! So I thought maybe sewing up some Halloween-inspired designs might help me to cool off. The first three are Kimberbell designs. The top one "Too Faboolous" is a pillow about 16" x 13", from her book "Oh the Possibilities...For Halloween." The green glittery spider is from JoAnns.

 I'm saving this design here just because I think I should make this one too!

This square table-topper is about 23" square. It's ready for me to do some quilting. The border fabric is something I've had for years, and it's one of my all-time favorite Halloween designs.

This mini quilt is 15" x 17". It's made with 2 of the little mini charm packs (they measure 2.5" square). It will go on my coffee table, with perhaps an orange pumpkin.

The Kimberbell bench pillow is about half quilted. When the quilting is finished, I'll add some black buttons to the center of the two candy-corn flowers, and add the rick rack leaves to the big flower on the right.

Here's another project from Beach Week 2016. I am upset with myself because I cannot remember who showed this quilt. She had just gotten it back from the longarm quilter. There is a blue and white quilt on my bucket list, and I just thought this one was fabulous!

Here's my completed table runner from the Kindred Spirits club. It's called "Split Decision." This is our demo for our March meeting. It's a Courthouse Steps block sewn to 9" square (using a 3" square center and 1.5 inch strips). Then you slice it in half vertically and horizontally. You insert the sashing and tiny cornerstone (which is cut at 1 inch square).

Here's an individual block done in the "Simple Joys" line from Penny Rose Fabrics. You can't have too many Christmas quilts, can you?

I do love a good miniature quilt! 

Here is a  Courthouse Steps quilt from a Jo Morton design.

Pinwheels make a simple but charming little quilt.

The pattern on the front door is called "Charming Coins."

It's a great use of little scraps.

These pieces are cut 1.5 inches by 2.5 inches.
